The Journal of Phonetics is a peer-reviewed academic journal that covers topics in phonetics and phonology. It was established in 1973 and appears four times a year. It is published by Elsevier, the current editor in chief being Kenneth de Jong (Indiana University).

The journal covers a wide scope of topics, including both auditory, acoustic and articulatory phonetics, as well as the relation between phonetics and phonology. Phonetics-related aspects of foreign language acquisition are also covered, as well as pathological and technological issues.[1]
The journal publishes both theoretical and experimental papers, as well as review articles and letters to the editor. Special thematic issues are published occasionally.
